Warkworth

“The Most Desirable Village to Live in Northumberland” (Savills, 2022)

Warkworth is a historic Northumberland village that nestles gracefully into a loop of the River Coquet. At its heart stands a magnificent 15th-century castle, surrounded by beautiful stone architecture and timeless charm. In spring, the hilltop castle is encircled by a sea of golden daffodils — a truly breathtaking sight.

Just a short stroll along the river from Riverview Cottage, you’ll find a remarkable chapel and priest’s house carved into the cliff face. Believed to date back to the 14th century, it’s one of the area’s hidden gems and well worth a visit.

At the foot of the hill lies the village centre, where the grand parish church takes pride of place. Around it, you’ll discover cosy cafés, welcoming pubs, independent shops, and even a specialist chocolatier for those with a sweet tooth

Cross the medieval bridge and, within a ten-minute walk from the cottage, you’ll reach Warkworth Beach — a vast stretch of golden sand and dunes, dog-friendly all year round. Just beyond the beach sits Warkworth Golf Course, a stunning 9-hole links course established in 1892, offering spectacular views and a warm welcome to visitors.
